Built by organizational psychologists. Run only for law firms.
Since 1991, SRA has been the independent third party that top US law firms rely on to evaluate their people. We run confidential, data-driven reviews that show firms where leadership is working, where associates are disengaging, and what to do about both.
Our story
Dr. Arthur Wohlers, an organizational psychologist, began this work in 1987 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Among his first clients was AT&T, where he ran in-depth employee engagement research. Dr. Cynthia Wohlers joined him in 1990, and together they founded Survey Research Associates, Inc. on Wall Street in 1991.The early work spanned large organizations including Deloitte Consulting. As law firms began to recognize what structured feedback could do for retention and leadership development, SRA narrowed its focus rather than broadening it. Today the firm works exclusively with law firms, running partner upward reviews, associate evaluations and firm-wide engagement surveys.
A generic HR platform can technically run an upward review. What it cannot do is hold the data outside your firm. When a fourth-year associate is asked to assess the partner who staffs their matters, the question they are really answering is who will see this. If the honest answer is "someone at my firm," the feedback you receive will be diplomatic and close to useless.
SRA holds the response data as an independent party. Results are suppressed below a minimum response threshold, and comments are reviewed before release so that no one can be identified by role, matter or phrasing. That structure is why participation rates hold and why the findings are worth acting on.
